This is a story of a foal (Baby Donkey), who, one day, went out for grazing with her mother on the road-side of Kailash Puri Colony of Agra Town. Suddenly, and unfortunately, a fast moving vehicle came towards the foal. Instinctively, the mother pushed away the baby from the spot. The vehicle hit the mother instead and she died on the spot. The foal was hardly 15 days old, surviving on mother's milk. Seeing the situtation and hearing the cries of the foal, passersby assembled there. One of the passerby was Mr. Raju, a keen animal lover. He phoned up PFA Agra for help. PFA people rushed to the spot and with the help of a few good samaritans, the foal was brought to the shelter.
In the shelter house, the foal was provided with milk, but it did not accept anything. Force feeding had to be done. Since the foal was crying most of the time, it was decided to keep the foal in the company of other donkeys residing in the shelter house, taking the precaution that no donkey would kick the baby. Within two days the foal was normal and started taking mesh and grass. Now the foal grazes keenly and kicks his legs when in playful mood.

PFA Activities
  • Ms. Elke Winkler was in the shelter for some volunteer work. She is a German citizen who had adopted a street dog from Agra. She is a frequent visitor and an ardent animal lover. She donated a lot of medicines, food, collars, instruments , coats, beds, towels etc. She stayed at the shelter for 3 weeks and was instrumental in bringing a lot of changes for the betterment of the shelter.

  • In February we conducted camps in the villages surrounding our shelter.  The veterinary doctor and para-vets advised the cattle owners about the dangers of using oxytocin  . They were also told the need of proper hygiene and also not letting their cows loose on the road as also the need for proper periodic check ups.

Our organization is always in dire need of funds. Due to paucity of funds a lot of our energies get diverted towards raising money for the day to day running of the shelter. We are running short of staff as we don't have money to pay the salaries for more people. Our shelter is running on less than bare minimum staff. We appeal to all Animal Lovers worldwide to put in their share for a noble cause and help us help the animals who are in need of a helping and caring hand.
