PFA Agra has been conducting animal birth control program over a number of years now and we have successfully completed more than a thousand such operations. However, a critical assessment of our progress reveals that our pace is too slow to resolve the problem of dog over-population in the city. As per the estimates of the local municipal corporation, the population of dogs in Agra is pegged at 25,000.
The PFA Agra Hospital was completed in the year 2003 and since then has been the hub of all the activities of the organisation.
After the construction of the hospital was completed, we have never had an opportunity for repair and maintenance of the structure. The primary reason for this was the fact that money has always been in short supply and we have only had enough to keep the shelter going. The buildings are in a dire need of repairs now. Secondly, over 6 years of functioning of the shelter has brought to the fore some of the deficiencies of the original design. These too need to be addressed from the point of view of providing better medical care for the patients.
